What did I learn that increased my understanding of the kaupapa and pedagogy of the Manaiakalani Reading Programme ?
What did I learn that could improve my capability and confidence in teaching mathematics?
What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
What did I learn that could be shared within my wider community, with either colleagues, or whānau/aiga?
Session 3
Using Number talks as part of Maths talks.
Such a good resource to have for effective questioning and to elicit student talk.
Reinforce with the tamariki that we are thinking about how we got there which is just as important as getting the answer.
Session 4
Early Algebraic thinking
Vocab
It is so important to keep learning the vocab.
I need to think of a way to display this new learning with the tamariki so it is not just taught and then not used again.
Freya Model for vocab development
I want to give a think board a go.
This is a good example.
I loved the reminder of using books to reinforce/ connect to maths learning.
There are Algebra in books. On Epic.
Other picture books linked to maths - on the tahurangi site as well.
Really good video talking about the = symbol
6 - Number Properties
Good online resources to show thinking
Abacus - Toy theatre
7. MPI 5: Patterns, Equations and Relationships
Use words.
Use materials to make it and show it along side number patterns.
When I add 6 to 25 this gives me the 5th number
Kia ora Petrina,
ReplyDeleteAnother day of lots of ideas, resources and reminders. Maths books are one of my favourites and there are so many great ones with all the planning completed for you. They are a great way to link your maths and literacy together doing your shared book around a maths book.
The frayer model and TIP charts are great for new vocabulary. I am interested in how you are going to fit them into your current program.
Mathegon polypads are also another of my favourites with so many online manipulatives and games on there. Have a great few weeks exploring these and see you at the next MPI day.
