DFI Week 4 - Collaborate sites

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

We started the day with Dorothy via hang out. She was talking about the Share part of the Manaiakalani kaupapa.
This is what i heard...
We have been sharing since time began.
Good time and bad.
Creating and sustaining relationships.
Mode has changed over centuries.
We share in a huge variety of ways.
Biggest change - social media - speed and amplification.
Sharing your lives with other people - making connections and sharing.

My Question is - Are we really more connected with each other when using with social media?

Manaiakalani - decided to harness social media as a hook for good that can be leveraged.

"Work with learners to establish an authentic audience for their learning outcomes."

Add another feature - not getting rid of all the things that already work e.g. taking book to principle, assembly etc.

Ways to share:

With one another, the class, the school, the local community and now.... go global - beyond the local community.
Sharing with purpose - Audience.
Authentic audience.  People who CHOOSE to listen to you.

Why use Blogger?
Resembles the spaces where they want to be.
Secure
Largest audience
Multi purposed
Can be used by learners and teachers.
Latest post on the top.

Cybersmart curriculum - good support.

Kaupapa : Learn create share.     And..   Share to learn.   Share to FINISH learning.
Sharing is the start of new learning -

Links to John Hattie - the importance of feedback and feedforward.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

Multi Modal - what we mean when we use this term

An inclusive, differentiated approach to teaching in a digital learning environment.
Your site is like a shop window. Is it getting people involved and interested?
Is it engaging? e.g. Teachers creating a movie to hook kids onto their learning.
Needs to be fresh on the home page. Like a road map about where you are going.

Universal Design for Learning:
Even with technology we can still fall into the one size fits all issue. One app for all kids.
In terms of supporting students learning this is not useful. They are all different.
Universal design for learning - acknowledges variability from outset!!

3 aspects:
We are all different in How we perceive information e.g. text, visual, video etc.
What engages one learner does not necessarily engage another learner.
(the default is me - how do i learn - what will motivate me BUT the default needs to be no default
- needs to be many examples of how we present)
There is no average student.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

The website that i am creating has been started with my learners in mind.
My New Entrant and year 1 Tamariki are bug mad at the moment.
Here is a look at my website.
Creepy Crawly Critters website

Example of a page.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

As you can see from this photo I am very intense!! There was so much to learn today and my brain is very FULL!! I can imagine how tamariki feel when they are not given enough time to practise what they have learnt to really embed the learning in their brain.

DFI Week 3 - Dealing with data

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
Started off the day with a session on Create: The message i got was - It seems to be that this is not allowed for or made time for much. Has not been seen as a priority. Creating is not just creating a document but creating in ways that was not able to be done before.
Allowing young people to be creative human beings - doing things that have not been part of the traditional classroom

give an opportunity to show an understanding of their learning in different ways that was available before.

Due to unforeseen circumstances I had to leave today at morning tea because of an emergency situation. I have gone through the notes from today and have tried my best to understand what I had to do...

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

    Google forms:
    Created a form.

    Google my maps:
    Went through the map activity.
    Here is my map.
I imported data from the google form we filled in earlier in the day.
I had a play with adding layers and measuring distances etc.

    Google sheets:
Went through the activities and here is something from it.
Lauren was amazing and went through this with me - Thanks!!!
It was good. Now I need to go back and do it a few more times so I remember how to do it easily.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Mainly for me at this stage.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
Google sheets will definitely help with my workflow at for work.
The maps will be very helpful with personal life too.

We added new labels to the blog.

    DFI Week 2 - Workflow

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani’s Learn kaupapa and pedagogy?

It was good to hear from Dorothy this morning.
It is interesting to hear that Manaiakalani kaupapa is Moving from analogue world to the digital world. Effective teaching is still essential and the NZ curriculum and supporting documents are still very relevant.
Any teacher who can be replaced by a computer - should be!
This slide shared by Dorothy really resonated with me.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

We did a google hang out and discussed...
What was the teaching design behind the post?
    What was the learners response?
Who responded to the post and how did it support the learning?

Here is a video of our attempt. We had to first download quick time, learn how to use quick time as well as learning about google hangout. We had a problem with the sound recording on our hangout and we could only hear one voice. Lots of learning with this session!!

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

I really liked these positive sentence starter for positive, thoughtful and helpful blog comments.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

It was awesome to learn how to tidy the bookmarks bar in chrome. And great to have the time to do some of this.
I really liked learning about organising my emails etc. I had over 7000 in there and it was in much need of a sort.
